<div itemprop="description">VANCE, Alberta June, age 90 of the Sagewood, Lower Sackville (formerly of Portapique, Colchester County). With sadness we announce the passing of our mother at the Queen Elizabeth II Heath Sciences Centre on July 23 of complications arising from injuries sustained in an unfortunate fall. Born in Coventry, England in 1926 she was the daughter of the late Albert and Edith Kench. Predeceased by her husband, Lawrence (Larry) and her sister, Margaret, she is survived by sons Jim (Susan), Paul, and Scott and daughter Gail, six grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. Perhaps her greatest regret was never knowing her father who had died before she was born. Raised by a single mother she experienced illness in her early years and then the tragedies of war. After the war she emigrated to Canada with her mother to join her older sister in British Columbia. There she married Larry, a sailor from Nova Scotia and started her family. Moving frequently in the early years of marriage she found herself in the Halifax area by the mid 1950s. When Larry retired from the navy they moved to Colchester County to operate a small farm. Widowed in 1999 she moved back to the Halifax area. Recently she has affectionately called the Sagewood her home. We know she would wish us to extend a heartfelt thank you to the staff at Sagewood and in particular, Hummingbird Cottage for the quality of care provided. Cremation has taken place. A private celebration of her life will be held. Donations in memory of June may be made to the Sagewood Recreation Fund or the Epilepsy Association of Nova Scotia.
