<div itemprop="description">Brown, Alexander &ldquo;Alex&rdquo; 79 of Dartmouth, passed away as the sun was rising on March 8, 2016 at the Dartmouth General Hospital. Born in Little Bras D&rsquo;or, Cape Breton he was a son of the late Alexander and Jenny (Greenwell) Brown. Alex completed Teacher College in 1956 and received a Bachelor of Commerce Degree from St. Mary&rsquo;s University in 1971. He had a successful teaching career in Nova Scotia for 35 years teaching Industrial Arts. After retirement Alex enjoyed 21 years of golfing in the winter months in Myrtle Beach and summer and fall months at the cottage he and Margaret built. He enjoyed the serenity of the golf course, the view from the cottage, his garden, family and friends, and the famous Maritime pastime talking about the weather. Alex is survived by his wife Margaret (Pike) of 54 years, two sons, Kenneth ( Anne Marie), Dartmouth; Paul ( Jayne) Calgary; two daughters, Janet Brown, Calgary; Nancy ( Steven) Elliott, Dartmouth; Grandchildren, Kamryn, Hallie, S&eacute;bastien, Julien and Ethan Brown, Bryanne and Liam Elliott ; Sisters, Esther (Harold) Briers, Shirley ( Russell) Gouthro, both of Cape Breton, Sheila ( Harold) MacRae, Halifax. He will be missed by the rest of the family and friends. He was predeceased by sister Christine Beetle of Val Rico, Florida. A celebration of life will be held at Stairs Memorial United Church 44 Hester Street Dartmouth, Saturday March 12 at 11AM with a reception to follow in the church hall. Many thanks to the nurses, physicians and staff of the Dartmouth General Hospital for their care and kindness. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to a charity of choice.
