Born in Elmsdale, Nova Scotia, Fran was the daughter of the late Gordon and Florence Casey. Fran grew up in Halifax and spent her summers between the farm in Elmsdale and the cottage in Shad Bay. She was an independent young woman who worked as an executive assistant in the legal field and travelled throughout Europe, Canada and the US. Fran enjoyed spending time at the Northwest Arm Club and on the south shore where she enjoyed the Saturday night dances at the Shore Club. She was a member of the badminton club at Stadacona and won many championships. After marrying Hubert, Fran lived in Truro for a few years before moving to Dartmouth, where she raised her family. Active in the Woodlawn United Church, she was a long-serving member of the UCW and many other committees. Fran was very social and enjoyed meeting people. One of her favorite pastimes was playing bridge where she made lasting friendships. Fran spent most of her last years living with her daughter and son-in-law in Waverley, Nova Scotia.
Fran was predeceased by her husband, James Hubert O’Brien, brothers, Russ Casey, Maurice Casey, Austin Casey, stepbrother, George Buckler, and sister, Phyllis Landry (Casey).
