<div itemprop="description">MULLOWNEY, John Hugh, age 82, passed away peacefully on February 21, 2016, at home in Cole Harbour with his wife of 63 years, Florence, by his side. Born in Sydney, he was the son of Michael and Gladys Mullowney. He excelled in minor sports and played senior hockey for the Sydney Millionaires and Glace Bay Miners. He remained involved in minor sports coaching at all levels, including the Sydney Junior Millionaires. John retired as Deputy Chief of the Sydney Police Department in 1994 after 40 years of service and support to his community. He was a loving husband, brother, father, grandfather and great-grandfather, who cared deeply for his family. He was a talented carpenter, always ready to help family and friends. John enjoyed family life, travel, dogs, camping in Ingonish; tarbish, cribbage, and sharing stories with friends. Survived by his wife, Florence (MacLeod), his sister, Margaret ( Ken) Robertson Alberta, sons: Ronald , Botwood, John (Patricia) Cole Harbour, Michael (Darlene) St. John&rsquo;s, and daughter, Deborah Annesty (Brent) Cole Harbour, 9 grandchildren and 9 great-grandchildren. John was predeceased by his daughter in law Sheila. Family burial service will be held in Sydney at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of John may be made to the Cape Breton Regional Hospital Foundation or Dartmouth General Hospital Foundation or a charity of your choice.
