<div itemprop="description">It is with heavy hearts the family announces the passing of Kenneth Zwicker at Dartmouth General Hospital, on Thursday April 28, 2016 after fighting a courageous battle with cancer at the age of 67. He passed away peacefully surrounded by family and friends. Born in Liverpool he was a son of the late Carmen and Bertha (Whynot) Zwicker. <br /> <br />Ken moved to Dartmouth with his parents in the late 1950's. He became an employee of the City of Dartmouth (Water Department) in 1970 and became very active in the labour movement. During Ken's career, he served in numerous executive positions. He worked with the Canadian Union of Public Employees; Nova Scotia Union of Public Employees; and the Halifax Civic Workers Union, Local 108 where he served as full time President prior to joining the Department of Labour in 1997. In 2001 Ken became the Chief Industrial Relations Officer with Conciliation Services and served in that position until his retirement in June 2013. Ken had a great sense of humour and possessed the ability to remove the confusion from any conversation you might have with him. He enjoyed many hobbies including woodworking, gardening, and following the NASCAR races. <br /> <br />Ken is survived by his best friend and loving wife Sherry (Chenell); stepdaughters Rhonda (Paul), Angela; son Allan; daughter Tracy (Paul); daughter in law Nadine; grandchildren Emma and Kayla Zwicker, Gabrielle Clarke, Sara Suplee; sister Marie (John) Walker; and brother Byron (Edith Greenwood) Zwicker. <br /> <br />Cremation has taken place. Visitation to be held at Cole Harbour Funeral Home, 1234 Cole Harbour Road, on Tuesday, May 3 from 6-9 pm. Funeral service will be held on Wednesday, May 4 at 2pm in St. Alban's Anglican Church, 345 Pleasant Street, Dartmouth. Reception to follow in the church hall. Interment will take place on Entry Island, Magdalen Islands, Quebec at a later date. Family flowers only; donations in memory may be made to a charity of choice.
