<div itemprop="description">Captain Rex Ernest Fulcher (RCAF Ret.) of 16 Dewhurst Street, Dartmouth, slipped quietly into Eternity on Tuesday, January 14th, 2014 in his 90th year. <br /> <br />Rex served overseas during World War II as a wireless operator/air gunner, then went on to become an exceptionally skilled peacetime jet pilot and an instructor at the NATO Flight school in Centralia, ON during the Korean War. Rex&rsquo;s passion for flying, and for teaching others to fly, was a cross-generational inspiration to numerous students. He served as Chief flying Instructor at the flying clubs in Cold Lake, Alberta and Waverley, NS. He also formed flying clubs under RCFCA sponsorship at Bagotville, Quebec, Trenton, ON ,Vanderhoof, Sask. and Shearwater, NS <br /> <br />Rex was educated at UBC, Dalhousie and Saint Mary&rsquo;s Universities, earning Bachelor Degrees in Arts and Education and a Masters in Social Work. After his retirement from the CAF, Rex was employed as a counselor, first in the Saskatchewan healthcare system and then for Corrections Canada. He later taught ESL at the University of Prague in Czechoslovakia. <br /> <br />Rex&rsquo;s lifelong enthusiasm for outdoor sports began in his youth in Maryfield, Saskatchewan where he was renowned for his prowess in hockey. Rex also became a competitive curler and an enthusiastic golfer and lawn bowler. An avid reader, bridge player and political pundit until his death, Rex made time as well for volunteer work with local organisations. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus, among other organisations. <br /> <br />A loving and generous father and grandfather, Rex is survived by three daughters: Deborah Handley, Australia; Gwenda Boyd of Kingston, NS and her husband George; Pamela Hobbs formerly of Victoria, BC; three grandchildren: Craig Hartlen and partner Bonnie Wilcynski; Cindy Hartlen and partner Michael Cummings; and Ross Hobbs; two great grandchildren: Charles Hartlen and Henry Cummings. <br /> <br />He is survived by his first wife, Ruby (Peters) Feetham, and predeceased by his second wife, Pearl Dunn, Rex Fulcher (birth name Edward Paulson) is also survived by many members of his extended birth, foster and step families. <br /> <br />Rex will be very sadly missed by his beloved and devoted friend of many years, Leola Leck. <br /> <br />Cremation has taken place. The family will receive friends at a Christian celebration of Rex&rsquo;s long and giving life on Saturday, January 18th at 10:00 a.m The service is at Saint Clements Roman Catholic Church, Gaston Road , Dartmouth. Those who traveled with Rex on any part of his life&rsquo;s journey are asked to honor his memory in whatever way is most meaningful for them. The family asks in lieu of flowers donations be made to the Alzheimer's Society. <br /> <br />Rex, on behalf of your country, your family and your many friends, &ldquo;Well done, Thou good and faithful servant.&rdquo;(Matthew 25:21)</div>
