<div itemprop="description">McDONALD, Robert Joseph 'Bob' - Age 89, Waverley. Bob passed away peacefully surrounded by his family, on March 28th, 2016, in Northwood Care Facility, Halifax. He was born in Boston, Mass., on November 10th, 1926, moving to Waverley at a young age. Bob was the first-born son of Charles L. and Olive (Fauchea) McDonald. He married his lifelong sweetheart Joan Crawford Fraser on July 28, 1950 in Windsor Junction. He will be greatly missed by his devoted and loving wife of 65 years, Pappy; his children, Charles, Raelee (Bob), Margo (Barry) and Larry (Janis); grandchildren, Shauna, Ryan, Joey, Christina, Steven, Greg, Grace, Brady, Bradley, Sarah, Josh and Melissa; greatgrandchildren, Hannah, Chloe, Bella and Willow. He is also survived by brothers, Bernie (Madeline), Paul and brother-in-law, Bill. He was predeceased by his parents, Charles and Olive; his sister, Shirley Ann and sister-in law, Betty-Anne. Having a competitive entrepreneurial drive, Bob worked diligently and passionately as a community supporter. His career included cooking on the CNR between Halifax and Montreal, and then entering the automotive business, starting in the service department at Citadel Motors in Halifax. From sales to manager at Teasdale &amp; Foot in Dartmouth, to his opening in 1965 as the owner and operator of Bob McDonald Chevrolet &amp; Oldsmobile Ltd. in Halifax where he worked until 1994. Bob was accredited with many accomplishments in his lifetime. He was TIME Magazine Quality Dealer award winner for Canada, General Motors Presidents Triple Crown Award (8). Volunteer of the Year (2010), Provincial Volunteer Award (2011). He has volunteered his time to many groups and associations such as Cheema Canoe Club, the Special Olympics, Waverley Amateur Athletic Association, Waverley Gold Diggers Hockey Club, Suburban hockey league, Halifax Fishing Club, Ducks Unlimited, Air Cadets and Citadel Boxing Association. He served as Commissioner for the Village of Waverley and was a member of the Rate Payers Association of Waverley. Bob also was involved with maritime racing activities including sponsorships and supporting the drag circuit and motorcycle racing. Bob was also an accomplished float plane pilot and won many awards for spot landing. Bob was devoted to his community of Waverley and in particular, the Charles L. McDonald Sports park. He wanted to continue to fulfill his father&rsquo;s dream and vision of having a sports facility in the community that they loved and lived in. A proud Canadian, Bob was an avid outdoorsman who loved fishing, hunting and 'the camp'. He was a man of great faith, hope and charity. Cremation has taken place. Mass will be held at 9:45 a.m. on Friday, April 1st in St. Rose of Lima Parish, Fall River. Immediately following, a Celebration of Life will be held in Waverley Legion.
